Founder: Alix Peabody
Alix started her first venture to pay off the cost of freezing her eggs. When she was 24, doctors discovered she had an unusual condition called ovarian torsion. Faced with the reality that she would likely lose her ovary, she decided to freeze her eggs. The total cost (which was not covered by insurance) came to ~$20k. In order to pay off her medical bills, she started throwing parties at her aunt and uncle's house in Sonoma and charging per ticket. Through this experience, Alix learned a lot about how people interact when they are drinking and when they are trying to make friends. She wondered what a company would look like that was focused on making the social scene more approachable for women. Armed with an idea and 300 gallons of rosé that she bought by cashing out her 401k, Alix launched Bev.
Bev is a canned alcoholic beverage company that meets its customers digitally and sells direct-to-consumer on its ecommerce site as well as through physical retail locations across the US. The company currently offers canned rosé, sauvignon blanc, and pinot grigio with 0g sugar. Although the core business is selling canned wine, the greater mission of the company is to promote a more female-friendly drinking culture.
"We're about having fun in a respectful way. It's not about just selling rosé. For me, it's building a brand that really stands for something and encourages people to explore new points of view." - Alix
