Founders: Sierra Tishgart and Maddy Moelis
Sierra had her dream job - she was a food writer and editor at New York Magazine where she spent her days running around NYC interviewing chefs, attending restaurant openings, and reviewing food. In an effort to become a more confident cook herself, Sierra started looking for dependable pots and pans that would last and look nice. Somewhat like buying the nice exercise clothes before you get in shape, Sierra was looking for cookware that would inspire her to cook more often. Unfortunately, her buying process quickly became frustrating. It seemed all too complicated - so many choices, massive sets with seemingly slight variations between items, lots of different types of materials, etc. Sierra imagined herself writing about a direct-to-consumer company that revolutionized cookware and created products that were modern, simple, high-quality, and well-designed. She started talking about it with her childhood friend Maddy, who was an early employee at Warby Parker and Zola, and before long they were questioning, "Why shouldn't it be us?"
Great Jones is a direct-to-consumer modern kitchen company that sells high-quality and beautifully designed cookware on its ecommerce site. The founders conceptualize their products with input from a vast network of chefs and food experts, paying attention to every detail - such as pieces being welded as to not collect food in the rivets and handles being particularly constructed so that they never get too hot. Every piece undergoes extensive testing and each color is thoughtfully selected with a specific inspiration in mind.
“I look at cooking the same way I look at exercise; I never regret doing it, even if I’m tired and it’s hard to start. It gives me a strong sense of accomplishment, especially when I’m cooking alone, which is most of the time. I feel like a better, healthier, and more organized version of myself.” - Sierra
