Founder: Neumi Anekhe
Neumi started her fashion career as a stylist, but never felt represented in her work. Upon realizing that she couldn't identify herself in anything, she thought, "I have to start something. I have to do something about it." In 2018, Neumi launched OMA The Label selling bodysuits. The brand evolved to include silk pieces, but due to COVID her silk production was canceled and Neumi was forced to adapt. Having only done one jewelry piece before, she created a whole new line of jewelry for the brand and launched the same year.
OMA The Label sells apparel and jewelry direct-to-consumer on its ecommerce site. With her brand, Neumi wants to challenge the traditional homogenous industry standards, while providing high-quality yet affordable pieces for the everyday woman. Inspired by her multi-cultural experience of being Nigerian and Norwegian, Neumi's aesthetic is clean but vibrant. In her words, "Two opposites, but they work."
"I wanted to show black beauty. We don’t see that often in its pure form. It’s always in a way that’s pleasing to other people. Black women need to be properly represented – not altered to or morphed into something more 'acceptable'." - Neumi
