Founder: Eliza Blank
Eliza got the idea for The Sill when she moved to NYC and into a sixth-floor walk-up with one window that faced a brick wall. Eliza wanted plants for her space, but didn't know how to transport them back from the store or how she would take care of them in such sub-par conditions. She realized that many people likely had the same struggles that she did, so she created a new kind of plant brand focused on convenience and demystifying plant-care for new and aspiring green thumbs.
The Sill provides customers with the perfect (and already beautifully potted) plant by enabling them to filter by feature, variety, and size on the company's ecommerce site. The co. ships its plants DTC and includes a care card detailing instructions on how to care for each specific plant (light, watering, etc.). The Sill offers additional resources to help with plant care, including a blog, online workshops, and virtual consultations. By starting The Sill, Eliza modernized the houseplant and helped spark millennial obsession.
"The Sill has evolved as a business over time, but our core mission has remained constant: bridge the gap between people and plants, because plants make people happy." - Eliza
