In 2017, Zuleyka decided to go plastic-free in an effort to do more to try to protect the planet. She found the adjustment to be quite difficult given how everything (specifically grocery) was packaged. Zuleyka realized that the level of effort she had to put forth to go plastic-free would discourage others from making the same change, so she started exploring ways to remove plastic from the supply chains themselves. This led her to come up with the idea for Zero Grocery, which pairs sustainability with convenience and affordability in an effort to help bring environmentalism to the masses.
Zero Grocery is a convenient grocery delivery service that is 100% zero plastic. Zero sources its goods at wholesale sizes and prices, which allows the company to avoid food waste while providing customers with great products at a lower cost. Customers order online and Zero delivers the groceries directly to their doorsteps in reusable containers. When customers are done with their jars, Zero will pick them up on the next order. Zero Grocery currently only services the Bay Area, but is expanding soon.
“We are looking at every element of the food purchasing experience, including things like supply chain and packaging, and thinking about what we can do to take a different approach that is better for the planet and that makes us and our members feel proud.” - Zuleyka
